Boosting: This is a call for help! During the week of Apr 10, members of KFest will be in the Oceanside CA area to rescue a very large Apple II collection.
We need 3-4 more super focused people who can help us load storage totes. There won't be time for looking & appreciating- only for loading.
We are out to save a large collection of books, manuals, disks, CDs, manuals, peripherals & so much more that we believe are an inestimable value to the community.
Can you help? Please DM me for deets.
me holding a gun to the x86 boot process: tell me the name of god you archaic piece of shit

Apparently, someone launched a high-altitude burger earlier today on a TikTok live stream? Tragically it didn’t make it back down
Happy International Not A Woman Day to all my fellow gender weirdos. May the universe hand anyone who misgenders you a hundred unwanted cacti.
My latest at WIRED: Today the FBI admitted to buying cellphone location data that US companies claimed was gathered to personalize online ads -- data the bureau would've otherwise required a warrant to obtain
Dir. Wray says it was purchased for a classified pilot program "some time" ago

I was talking with a cis female friend recently, and felt that in the *simplest* terms, our solidarity could be boiled down to a single sentiment:
"It shouldn't be this fucking hard to be a woman."
Our struggles may be different in many ways, but it's the same in so many others.
Our rights are stripped away, we are told what we can and can't be, our autonomy is limited by those who clad themselves in claims of being champions of individual liberty and small government.
We are all oppressed because we are not part of a self appointed ruling class of small minded, frightened, power hungry men who will sooner sacrifice us than admit we are human beings worthy of dignity and respect.
They drive wedges between us to prevent us from fighting together, to make us feel small, powerless, and incapable of enacting change.
It's time to prove them wrong.
Elsevier's profit margin last year was 37.8%. Let's contrast that with, say, Google (21.2%) or Apple (24.56%) or hell, Shell (10.95%).
I don't know how else to say these publishers-in-name-only are not on our side, they are not allies, they don't care about research or education
The saddest things of all in IT is the early onset brain rot that makes you look back to the past as a better age, and any new tech as something worse that should be avoided in favour of Ye Olde Solutions.
Yes, computers suck, but guess what: they always sucked, and there is no prelapsarian golden age to which you can return to.
“The reason most public transportation is seen as ‘losing’ money is precisely because it charges for trips. If you don't charge fares, suddenly it can't ‘lose’ money. It just costs money, the same as the roads.”
This random comment has given me my new favourite argument for removing fares from public transit.
